For $475 this is great value for people looking for a cheaper option. Steel kitchens imported from china with 30% less storage space are over $800!! This kitchen is same drifta quality and a very functional design. Stove needs to be screwed down, or strapped in place. This is shown as a LHS , can be made reverse to suit RHS tailgate. Has our plastic skids underneath, so weight sitting on trailer when travelling. The chinese steel kitchens don’t have this and are breaking hinges.

DSO is designed to bolt onto the swing out tailgate of camper trailers, either left or right hand opening. It's very simple to use, and still creates lots of bench space. Top surfaces are laminated, and it comes with sink and pump, and one draw. Underneath the unit are two plastic skids, which are designed to ride onto the floor of the trailer when closed, so the weight of the kitchen is sitting on the floor, not hanging off the tailgate when travelling.

The DPOS is a shorter version of the DPOR. This model was really designed to fit across the width of a trailer. For example it is the same size as the DSO, but is freestanding, and has a bit more bench space. Can also be used as a pull out version. Also great for tent camping, if you can fit it in your vehicle, say ute or troopy, or tow a box trailer. All your camping gear stores inside. Freestands and folds to a fantastic fully functional kitchen in less than a minute. Loads of bench space. |

Drifta has recently designed four different types of kitchens specially to suit camping trailers. When I started designing them, I had a number of characteristics in mind. .....ONE - they had to be of the same robust construction as all our Drifta products, guaranteed to be able to withstand the rough conditions in the back of a 4WD camping trailer. We only use quality Australian marine and exterior hoop ply, with every joint glued with a water resistant finger jointing glue, and pre-drill screwed. They are unconditionally guaranteed in durability and strength. Also, the advantage with using timber is that the kitchens are very light for their size, and allows us to create designs that aren't possible with other heavy materials like steel. You can pay up to $2000 for a pull out steel kitchen thats fixed to the trailer, weighs a ton and has hardly any bench space. Some of them come with stainless tops, but really there isn't any need for this expense. .....TWO - they had to be of exceptional design, utilising unique patented fold out designs to create bench space - the trademark of all Drifta Kitchens, and the most important feature of any kitchen, whether at home or in the bush. If you're planning on a camping trailer holiday for a few weeks, try spending the same time at home cooking, preparing and washing up on a two foot square card table. Thats how tricky and unorganised it will be if you don't have a properly designed trailer kitchen. All four Drifta trailer kitchens have been designed to create maximum bench space and flexibility, all with laminated upper surfaces. .....THREE - The kitchens needed good drawers, the next most important feature of a kitchen. All Drifta Trailer Kitchens can fit two to three light, easy to slide drawers. They also needed to be able to fit up to a three burner stove. All Drifta Trailer Kitchen designs allow for a standard gas three burner stove to fit comfortably. They can be modified to suit most other stoves. .....FOUR - they had to be able to freestand away from the trailer if needed. This created the most challanging design problem we had faced. The legs had to fold away, they had to be fully adjustable, and they had to be very strong. With nothing else on the market to compare to, I went through a series of several different designs, which eventually led to the patent pending set of Drifta Folding Legs. Made from galvanised tubing, every leg is fully adjustable with a thumbscrew up to 300 mm. They can be left to a preset height so each time they are folded down, it is the correct height. All joins are mig welded and sprayed with gal paint. Once folded down, the Drifta Folding Legs are locked into position with the Angle Brace, giving them unparalled strength for a large portable kitchen. These freestanding designs allow you to use the kitchens anywhere around the camp, not just off the back of the trailer. ....FIVE - they had to have a practical way of washing up. I stayed away from a built in sink, apart from being very expensive (whats the difference in washing up in a $300 dollar stainless sink, or a $3.00 plastic tub ) the bowl areas are often quiet small, and there was the problem of waste water and inlet water. Also they waste a lot of useable bench space. (it takes a lot longer to prepare and cook a meal than to wash up, and you can wash up with a tub on your bench, but you can't prepare meals in the sink. ) So I designed a roll out draw on runners, with the sink sitting on top, directly under the hand pump. You can slide it out of the way when not in use, or remove the sink and wash up on the bench. ....SIX - I had to have a flexible range to suit the different types of trailers , from drop down to swing out tailgates, from professionally built trailers to home made, from left to right hand opening tents/tailgates, from couples to large families. We have currently in our range four types, all can be modified within reason to suit various trailer heights etc. Here are the four designs I came up with. Please give us a call or e-mail if you have any questions about the new Drifta Trailer Kitchens. If you're considering a Drifta Trailer Kitchen, there's a few
things I need to know to make sure your kitchen fits your trailer. Our kitchens will fit these 'soft floor' camper trailers. Trackabout Offroad Campers , Redback, Clarkes Country Campers, Bell Canvas, Heavysew, Complete Campsite, Coolabah, Ace Trailers, Coastal, Cameron, Jumbuck, Wallaby, Cavalier, Tru Blu, Outback, Universal, Southern Cross, Penninsula , All Terrain , Built Tough, 3 Dogs, Simon Heard, Dingo, Walkabout, Traralagon, Customline etc, which is basically all the standard 6 x 4, or 7 x 4 box trailer type campers. Drifta kitchens won't fit in the 'hard floor' type campers such as -T-van, Kimberly, Campamatic, Cub, Pioneer, Ultimate, and Aussie Swag, although in the older models without kitchens we have fitted a aluminium box on the drawbar and a modified DPOS can fit inside. Thanks for your interest. rgds Luke the Drifta |

| HOW STRONG ARE THE DRIFTA TRAILER KITCHENS? Some people think that timber kitchens aren't strong enough for camping
trailers. Mostly they've heard this from someone selling trailers with steel
kitchens, but definately not from one of our 2500 customers. I build the Drifta's
out of marine ply, ( not MDF or chipboard ) the same as they build boats out
of. The 12 mm ply joints are screwed and glued. This joint is much stronger
than a folded rivetted, spot weld or tack weld steel joint, and far cheaper. There is also a lot of dividers etc in the kitchens that give the unit structure which equals strength. We supply 18 camping trailer companies around Australia with our kitchens. Mostly offroad trailers, and many of them for hire. If there was ever any problems, I can guarantee that they wouldn't be using them. Drifta kitchens are bloody strong, don't worry about that! Steel kitchens get very hot, have few features like bench space and drawers, are heavy and inflexible and expensive. If you purchase a Drifta and you ever have a problem, I'll do whatever I can to fix it up. That's an open warranty. So far I've never (ever) had one back, (except for the one that a massive tree branch fell on - see testamonials). You can be sure your Drifta Kitchen is impeccably designed and built. My signature is on every one. rgrds, Luke the Drifta |
