here’s some pics of the wheel cover bag with firepit sleeve. we did make a few but after using it myself i was a little uncomfortable with how much weight it added, so i took the option off the cart. but more people were requesting it so i went to the effort to redesign and strengthen the bag. i added 12 oz canvas on the top of the bag, a 50 mm internal webbing across the top / inside , added two med size buckles inside, holding the firepit sleeve to help take the weight, added an extra 50 mm external buckle to again help support it, so two buckles on the front. i kept the price the same, so pretty good value it is fair bit of extra work. i’m pretty happy with it now so it’s available again. it is a pretty handy place to store the firepit. to keep the weight down tho i have been leaving the grill net out wen travelling and replaced it with a very lightweight grill net we got from thailand that goes with the thai cookpot ( which we carry for grilling) so firepit is almost always used for the fire only and we cook on the thai cookpot. the wheel cover bag is for rubbish really so with the added weight of the firepit i think it’s fine but u shouldn’t be loading it up with firewood etc. anyway these are an awesome bag with the sleeve, designed after the trip to the cape in 2019 with richard, wen i was at the bamaga tip unloading the bag by hand it took a while and the tip didn’t smell the best : ) i thought we need a liner u can easily lift out so i added this and the simpson trip later the same year we tested it and it was brilliant : ) there is about a 3-5 day wait on these bags as they are pretty much made to order as u can select a few options , colour trim, one sleeve or two ( to separate rubbish) and now the extra firepit sleeve. so not something we can really have in stock but we are making them everyday.
On Some vehicles like the Prado there is not much room behind the tire so we can place the clip buckles on the top. Leave a note on the checkout page if you need buckles on the top. Btw you can not get the Maxtrax pocket when the clips are on the top.

LTD Product Tips – Drifta Canvas Wheel Bag Cover
“One of our first bags we made, was the Stoneguard Rubbish Bag for the dot trailers.. was the perfect place to put a rubbish bag, behind the stone guard.. still a popular bag today.. but then we adapted it to fit on the rear wheel carrier .. pretty simple bag. We upgraded the straps and the buckles, made it stronger a few times, with thicker canvas, more stitching etc..
On my first cape trip, with Rich Mac, we stopped at Bamaga tip, to empty our rear wheel carrier bags.. it was hot and there was a million flies, and pretty smelly, with a few dugong carcass’s about.. I had to dig thru the bag, pulling out days old beer cans , paper towel , general rubbish, was a bit of a mess, standing there getting swamped by flies.. I instantly thought we need a sleeve in this bag ! so can just pull it out, dump the rubbish real quick, and put it back in.
I made a note on my notepad, which I carry everywhere, along with many other notes of things to make or improve when I got home.. so a few weeks later, we made a pvc sleeve to go inside our rear wheel carrier bag.. held on with velcro, so it doesn’t fall down..
Not long after, we did the Simpson, again with Rich Mac. We got to the rubbish tip, outside mount dare , again to empty our rear wheel carrier rubbish bags.. this time, me and rich , both in a 76, both with the new sleeve inside the bag, simply zipped open the bag, pulled out the pvc sleeve full of 5 days of rubbish, and tipped it into the pit .. quick wash with some water, and back in the bag.. took one minute, so easy, and no mess : ) worked a treat !! we were so happy about how good it worked we were hi fiving each other, cracked a fresh beer, and thought , yep, that is good ! : )
It’s a pretty good example of how many drifta products came to be, over 20 years.. travelling around the world, and Australia, just thinking of how to improve things.. make things easier.. I got the idea for the first drifta kitchen from mule packing in America, 25 years ago, and drifta hasn’t stopped innovating and improving products for the camping and 4wd market ever since..
The rear wheel carrier bag, we also added a firepit sleeve, max trax sleeve, twin pvc pockets so you can split your rubbish, buckles on the top to suit prado’s, it can be made in about 8 different colours of canvas, with options for any colour binding.. a beige bag, black binding is what many are ordering atm : ) all made by the ladies in the Gloucester canvas factory, cnc precision cut on our new machine, sewn on the latest german machines, made with 100 % aussies wax con canvas, as is every bag we made .. we’ve only ever used wax con canvas, made locally near Newcastle, the best canvas in the world by far.. because these bags have so many options, they are ‘made to order’ , but only take 2-4 days to make.. you can order online, or order thru our Drifta Stores, where they will be sent free freight to collect from the store..
A great Drifta product, the rear wheel carrier bag, made locally, from local materials, literally designed from trips to cape york and the simpson desert, can’t get much more aussie than that..” : ) LTD
