LTD Product Tips – Drifta Stockton Shovels
“A long handled shovel was the first accessory I fitted to my old 47 series troopy.. couple bits of pipe , one with a nut welded to it, and a bolt that screwed into the wooden handle.. had a lot of adventures in that old 47, broome and back, fraser, high country, plus drove it from Brisbane melb and Adelaide twice a year to camping shows, and everywhere in between.. we had a big canvas tarp that fitted to hooks on the roof rack, and with a few poles and ropes was a great awning.
Gear was limited back then, no one could afford it really, I couldn’t even afford new tyres, the rear was always retreads and the front was always half bald : ) anyway, long handled shovel is a must carry.. one thing I used it a lot for, was driving the tracks in the state forest hills around Gloucester, if I saw a nice little tree beside the track, on the overgrown tracks where they’d get cleared anyway, I’d get the shovel and dig it up, put it in a plastic bag and bring it home : ) many of the trees down the back at Drifta kitchen shed are forest trees I transplanted. love my trees ! : )
I came across the Drifta stockton shovel, in three pieces, that fits nicely in a bag.. it was originally one of those Rambo shovels, with stuff down the handle and twenty things the shovel head could do, like pull out a nail or saw a log, but they were all useless features really, so I just got rid of all that and made it just a shovel.. the main feature I like is that it clips into 90 degrees, and can be used like a hoe..
A hoe is actually way more useful than a straight shovel.. if you use it without the handle extension, which I mostly do, you can get a big swing on it, say to track clear, dig a hole for the dunny, or scrape out sand under a bogged truck on the beach.. a hoe works so much better than a shovel really.. you can’t pull soil/ sand, or swing like a pick and dig a hole, with a straight shovel..
When we go on trips, I often got several mates with me, and now I always make sure they carry one of these , cause in the morning, my shovel gets grabbed and walked out of camp by almost everyone there, everyone wants to borrow it : ) so yeah anyone coming on a trip with me now, needs to have this shovel with them : )
The small dunny shovel is same, just much smaller.. more discreet , if you want to sneak off into the bush, and really you need a shovel of some sort.. if you don’t take a shovel, then you really ain’t gonna dig a hole, and we all seen the result of that.. a great extra with this shovel kit, is the Drifta dunny bag .. I’ve had mine now for about 10 years.. toilet paper, lighter, water bottle and soap.. also some zip lock bags, good for the missus to use : )
The Drifta Stockton shovel fits neatly in the bag, and lays flat can pack anywhere.. the small shovel also fits inside.. the bag, is also so handy I found, so I got them separately, I use to keep my silky saw, large spanner, fencing pliers, and a machette..
It’s just a tough handy size flat bag, so these available separately now.
We also sell a kit with both size shovels and bag : ) Click here to view kit.
There’s some tips, on the Drifta Stockton Shovels.. : ) LTD”
