Leather Awl Kit

Leather awl, made in America, comes with 2 needles, internal spool complete with thread, and an extra 30 m of waxed cotton thread.. used for sewing leather, but also canvas, so perfect for camping trailers canvas repairs… I have been carrying one of these for years, mostly for my leather work, but i was at my unc bob’s place in Brisbane recently, picking up DOT parts, and he wanted to fix a small tear in his camper trailer cover, and asked me about it.. i said well you need a speedy stitcher, and since i always carry it with me, leant it to him.. it’s was perfect, and i realised, that it would be very handy for people with camper trailers, to fix small tears, or repairs etc.. particularly the small loops to hold the pegs in the floor, often can rip out, or tears in the pvc cover, around windows, anywhere really.. the leather awl is sort of the only thing you can use to fix it with.. it works perfectly, and is pretty easy to use.. also, it’s great for leather work, particularly kangaroo hide.. this is a cheap, simple hobby, where you can make heaps of handy things.. awesome for kids too..

So yeah if you got kids, and looking for a cool hobby to get them away from the ipad, then leather work like this could be ideal.. it’s easy, you can make lots of practical useful things, and teaches them a lot, ie how to turn an idea into something, how to use their hands, and most importantly, how to ‘figure things out’ .. Kaito made all these things himself, and heaps more, from when he was 7… and yeah they get a huge amount of ‘satisfaction’ from making something themselves, this is important, and something you never get from a computer.. all you need are a few small things to get started, and then you can do it on the lounge room floor.. : ) luke
